Field Care Tips for Birds

Without a doubt, proper field care will determine the quality of your finished mount. When collecting birds in the field you will probably be shooting it with a shotgun.
When the hunt is completed, select a bird with the least amount of damage. Check the feet, bill and spread the wings to look for damage or missing feathers.
While in the field protect your selected bird by placing it head first in an old pair of panty hose. The panty hose will hold the feathers in place. Wrap the bird in two plastic bags and seal tightly.
Place our bird on ice until you can freeze it later.
